Frequently Asked Questions
Words Of Wisdom

As the player SolomonGrundy noted, “Screaming at your house will not make it level.”

The Basics

First, houses are a very long-term investment in the game

Second, the plot of land is 50p

Third, that is just the beginning

Business Time

Now to get down to business…

Buying a house is easy. If/when you believe you have the time/money/resources to put into one is when you should start one best. That moment is different for every player.

Always remember that your house will NOT level every day. For example, my house is at level 104 with over 8 years of near-constant building. It will probably get 'stuck' now and again for days, a week, a month (or more depending on how often it gets worked on), at a time. Don't despair, or get frustrated - it is normal. For example, I take over 4½ months a level now.

Until you can use the Workbench in the Workshop, you will be making many, many, many signs to gain Construction levels for your house. Ergo, use the Workbench to build the latest item for a better experience. Don't be surprised if you build 30 on a level. After you get the Workbench, things will be different. Build everything you can for a particular level, even if it seems dumb, like the Alarm Clock in the Bedroom. The only thing you may want to skip, for now, is the Pond when you can build one, but I'll cover that later.

When you are able to use the Workbench, click the drop-down menu, and build whatever item is the bottom of the list. The admins have stated that building that item will give you the most experience towards reaching the next level after you've built the new level items obviously. The time it takes to reach the next level is somewhat relative to your current Construction level, i.e., a lower Construction level will reach the next level faster than a higher one, all things being equal, such as time spent actually building.

Those are the basics. You may have questions, which I will do my best to answer based on MY experience.

Note: There is a random factor involved with leveling, but it is unknown how this works. There is now a housing experience bar.

Answers To The Frequently Asked Questions

1. A. Until you get a workbench, it's slow going, building Signs can help a great deal, but as I stated above, you're going to build a LOT of them.

2. A. Clicking build most recent on Workbench is generally sufficient.

3. A. Foundations can help for setting up for when new rooms unlock, but the exp to time ratio leaves much to be desired.

(Click For Explanation For 1-3 Below)

4. A. Nothing. The difference is merely aesthetic.

5. A. The Pond is a unique item in the house. Your house must be at Construction level 13. You will also need to get 10 Booby Prizes out of Mystery Boxes. This will unlock the Consolation Fish in the Dungeon Shop that costs 10 Dungeon Points. After you have bought the fish, go the Garden in your house, and there you will be able to build a Pond provided you're not building something else.

Note: Neither do your spouse's Booby Prizes count together, nor do you both need 10.

6. A. The Warehouse allows you to store resources in the house that get used when building items (or rooms). This is especially useful for married couples who have a house. Each spouse can store resources in it instead of mailing needed resources back and forth. If a spouse wants or needs to take resources back out of the Warehouse, just add a - in front of the amount to be removed.

7. A. When you build items in a house your resources needed are taken from the Warehouse, including stored Platinum if needed, to build an item/room/whatnot.If the Warehouse doesn't have enough, the house will use what you have on hand to try to make up the difference If still not enough, the item/room/whatnot, won't get built.

Note: Your spouse's on hand resources will never be touched. If you need 10,000,000 more Lumber to build an item, for example, and your spouse is holding 2,000,000,000 Lumber, you're stuck.

8. A. All bonuses stack EXCEPT the ones listed below

9. A. No, unfortunately, you will have to build a second room with the item you want to be repeated. The restrictions are listed below.

Bonuses that do NOT stack (for question 8 and 9): * Beds * Items in a Cellar/Boiler Room * Items in a Garden/Large Garden * Items in a Dungeon * Just one Fireplace in any amount of Lounges * Hourglass is an exception in that you are allowed TWO (but only one in each Kitchen

10. A. The limit is 50 rooms and/or Foundations (not counting Garden(s) and Cellar(s), Dungeons, Treehouses, all of which are one only currently). The ones you see on the rankings list are grandfathered in and have extra Boiler Rooms, for example.

11. A. Yes, even if it costs platinum for seemingly no benefit. You might unlock something you didn't realize you were missing.

12. A. Whoever does the divorcing loses the house. Whoever does an annulment keeps the house. You can find more information on Marriage, Divorce, and Annulment here.

13. A. While the technical answer is in the Housing section, let me give you a better step-by-step method. # Before marrying, decide whose house is going to be sold. # Make sure the Warehouse, if any, is empty. # The owner of the house to be sold should systematically destroy each room. This will get the resources back at half of what it cost to build the stuff in the first place. # Get married and sell the abandoned shack. # To sell it, go to the town it is located in and you'll see the option to sell it

14. A. Yes You can read more about Pets here.

15. A. To build the Dungeon, you do not need a Foundation. Scroll under all the rooms, below where you'd make a new house sign, and there the option will be.

16. A. The simple answer is no. However, your house stat bonuses are included when a player types /stats. To find the stat bonuses that your house gives you, type /stats and use this formula: buffed stat amount-base stat amount-token boost amount-guild boost building amount-jewelry amount.

17. A. Go to your house, then your Study, then click on your Bookcase.

Explanation

Let's say a Foundation gives 25 building experience points, a Sign 50, and an Alarm Clock 20. Notice the resources required aren't considered, neither is job time length. However, the level of the item acts as a multiplier, which is especially obvious once one can use the Workbench. Now that Alarm Clock is worth 60 building experience points on a Workbench (since the Alarm Clock is level 3). Keep in mind, this is a rough way it works and the numbers used are just for illustration of principle purposes.

This is why things seem to go slow for many who don't follow my post, which is straight from the admins and Lyrael.

Thanks to JRTDYN for his idea to improve player help.
