Official Beginner's Guide

Equipment

Upgrading equipment is one of the most powerful ways to initially get stronger! Upgrading your equipment will help you do more damage and survive better against mobs and area bosses. To upgrade equipment visit the panel on the left hand side of your screen, click on a piece of equipment and upgrade. Note that for each Area that you're in there are equipment level caps for fighting the bosses that will stop you from getting a contract and payouts if you go over them, see here Area boss caps. As a general rule of thumb it's also better to upgrade weapons first before armours.

Equipment Costs 1-200

'Downgrading Note:' The max levels equipment can be downgraded by are given by the following: If your equipment level is 2500+ the limit is 10 levels, 2000-2499 20 levels, 1500-1999 30 levels, 1000-1499 40 levels and 1-999 50 levels.

For easy calculating, use the first post [http://mrnguild.freeforums.org/post580.html#p580 here]. The second post has commonly asked and used figures already done. Most players will use the 'Normally' part. If your guild has a Blacksmith, use this calculation to find the upgrade cost: (final cost-current cost)*.100-current Blacksmith level, so, for example, you want to upgrade your weapons from 143 to 150 and your Blacksmith is at 17. You'd use (11136.79-9644.5.1).83 to find the cost. The same method is used for armor which has a different set of numbers, which are listed below the weapons.

Guilds

As an older game in this genre guilds are already very well established with many older helpful players. Aside from this wiki they generally make a very good source of knowledge and often help with jewellery and plat when starting out! So get yourself in a good guild to start off with, this will pay dividends. Please use trade chat (/t to type in trade or select the drop down) to advertise that you're looking for a guild, not main.

[[Tokens and Permanent Boosts]]

Tokens help you upgrade your permanent boosts, the single most useful source of tokens when starting the game is buying account bound tokens. These can be found by going to the Purchase/Spend Tokens link at the top right of your screen > Miscellaneous.

Tokens are also found from random drops or by purchasing from the market or buying directly from the game for $$.

'“What boost should I raise with my tokens?”'

Again, no one answer exists. Most recommend unlocking all 10 of your Jewelry slots first though. Your best bet is to go with the boost you feel you may need. The strongest boosts to start with are global boosts (increases your chances of getting jade drops during jade rains - combined with the advice in the jade section this helps you purchase all of you permanent boosts very quickly!)

Incidentally, always check Purchase/Spend Tokens > Miscellaneous section before buying tokens from the Market. The tokens start at 5p each and go up 2p every 300. These tokens are account-bound and can't be sold.

Jade Temple

If you have just begun the game it is generally better to sell your jade on the market in buy tokens so that you can upgrade your permanent boosts. If you've already done this, then read on!

'“What should I spend my jade on?”'

No one answer truly exists. Many say Critical Hit Chance (CHC), Critical Hit Damage (CHD), or Heroism. However, other than Epeen (which is a jade sink), all have a benefit, some more immediate than others. Look at their functions in the Jade Temple section of this wiki. Alternatively, you can sell that jade and upgrade your equipment.

Area Bosses

Attack area bosses every two hours (odd server hours, which are to the left of chat). This is an easy way to gain some money, jade, gems, and dungeon points. Simply click Battle, then Bosses, sign a contract, then go back to Battle and keep killing mobs. You will first receive an alert in purple 15 minutes before the fight, then again at 5 minutes before, then a message saying some monster is attacking the land. You will probably die, and that is ok, just go back to killing mobs. When/if the boss dies, there will be another message in purple with a statement about what someone did to kill it. It may also say an anonymous hero killed it. Either way, go back to the Bosses section and click to loot it. Ignore what it says about the clerk taking pity on you. Then go back to killing mobs.

Boss Size And Strength

Each area boss has a base size, which can be seen if no contracts are signed. If just one person signs a contract, and they are something like 4k-4.5k levels per area in size (a level 40k player in A10, for example), the boss size won't change. I know only because that is how I went through each area. A player above that average, such as 6k levels per area (i.e., level 60k in A10), WILL make the boss bigger than the base size, even if solo. A player below that average will make the boss smaller than the base size.

However, once more than one signs up, the size of the boss starts increasing, as does how much of a range it may hit you for. The bosses size and strength is based on the aggregate number of levels (averaged out) of players signing contracts.

Finally, level of armor, Heroism, and Defense (and much later on, Evasion) stat will mitigate the damage (or eliminate in the case of Evasion) inflicted upon your character. Having more HP, without having the other stuff will NOT save you. You'll wonder why you get killed anyway.

Casino

Don't gamble, you're already poor.

Maps, Dungeons, And Orbs

Dungeons

You may find that you've gotten a map(1) (or maybe even a map(2)) from Hades. You may find yourself a dungeon while fighting mobs. Map(1)s and random dungeons will be the same while in A1. Things change a little beyond A1.

You are theoretically able to do a map(1) once you can kill Earth Elementals. You won't find random dungeons until you are fighting them as well. That's all fine and good, but on the small chance the map(1) has a challenge room, you need to be able to kill the Flying Spaghetti Monster to complete a challenge room. These days you can just leave a dungeon, and come back, without abandoning

For random dungeons, you don't have the luxury of drawing a map, unless you manage to marry someone with a house that has Cartography Tools (level 20 house item) or the Mechanical Cartography Tools (level 40 house item). You might as well go in. Hopefully, you won't have a problem with it. In all other respects, the same as a map(1).

Regarding maps and dungeons above A1…

Starting in A2, things are handled a little differently. You will find random dungeons to the area below the one you're in until reaching the midway mob of that area.

Maps from bosses will also be different. 70% chance of the same area map, 20% below the area, and 10% above your current area. Until you're used to mapping nomenclature, I suggest paying close attention to the map number in your Inventory.

Orbs

These are what you will find/buy to be able to upgrade your equipment quality. The best way to upgrade is to upgrade all equipment using the orbs you find, then sell the extra orbs you find to the Dungeon Shop. After everything has been upgraded, then you may want to use Dungeon Points for the next quality type orb on your weapons! You will find orbs you need for your armors easily enough as you do ever-increasing maps. Orb types to be found are as follows:

* Maps - 1, 2, 3 - Poor * Maps - 4, 5, 6 - Decent * Maps - 7, 8, 9 - Fine * Maps - 10, 11, 12 - Quality * Maps - 13, 14, 15 - Flawless * Maps - 16s and higher - Exquisite or Talismans

The pattern for upgrading will hold for a long time, trust me. You may change your mind when you hit Quality or Flawless.

Crafting

Seriously, forget it exists. You will 'NOT' have nearly enough gems or jade to make anything worthwhile. Get that thought out of your head, you won't show me how wrong I am. Just buy something reasonably priced from the market, another player, or even be gifted an item. This does not mean beg.

The only exception to this is creating a Wedding Ring. These are a fixed cost at 2k of each gem type and 2k jade. You need to make sure you select Wedding Ring when making one, else you're creating a Prismatic Ring Of Junk ™.

Market

To buy something, make sure the Buy/Sell box is on Sell. If selling, make sure it says Buy. There is a small listing fee, and when someone buys what you're selling, the fee is returned. If it doesn't sell, you lose the fee.

Note: If you sell part of your listing, you get back part of your listing fee.

Settings

The Settings menus can be found by clicking Battle, then scrolling down the list. There you can do things like pick a different theme, set experience ratios, and set your birthday, amongst other things

Tradeskill Jobs

Tradeskill jobs are done to produce resources (Food, Iron, Stone, Lumber, Jade, Gems, or Dungeon Points) for use in an in-game house, to be given to a guild for use in guild building upgrades or as part (or all) of a guild boss summoning, such as a dragon (default) or specialized one (Rat King, Iron Giant, Rock Lobster, or Ent). One can also produce resources and sell them on the market to try and turn a profit.

You should wait to do any jobs at first. Save until you have at least one spare platinum. Then when you can, pick 'one' of the seven Tradeskills and do a twenty-four-hour job with all twenty workers. Repeat the same thing with the other six skills. You will be very glad you did. You will get 50-60 skill levels in each for a total of 7p!

After the initial jobs, it is entirely up to you, but you'll find out very quickly how expensive the 24-hour jobs are.

Also, these are a low priority for low-level players.

Please note, it will be very difficult to turn a profit selling resources without investing in Leadership, a Jadeskill found in the Jade Temple, specifically for lowering the cost of Tradeskill jobs.
